Filling station curtilage - Making an excavation safe

Using: ALLOY PLATE 3.0 X 1.5 X 40mm

An underground feeder line in a long standing petrol station site suffered a breach due to the concrete above being overloaded over a period of many years. The engineers sent to site were to isolate the problem and stem the leak, but in locating it a large excavation had been made in an area accessible by members of the public, cars and LGV’s.

On analysis of the various options, it was decided that simply erecting barriers was insufficient the manage the risk of a poorly executed vehicle maneuver on a busy forecourt exposing the risk of a van or truck ending up in the hole, that was still full of live services and potential fuel vapours. A standard steel plate was rejected on the grounds that the same circumstance could end up with a plate being pushed or skidded across concrete containing flint elements and causing a spark and a no known GRP or non metallic option has sufficient strength to deal with the 2,000 mm x 900 mm void in question.

Our 3.0m x 1.5m x 40 mm Alloy Plate was the perfect solution and it remain in place for a few days whilst the decontamination and remediation could be organised and completed.
