Mynachady Wind Farm – South Wales
Sectors:
Using: 4m x 2m x 25mm Airside – Steel C/W Bevelled Edge and SALLY
As is often the case with wind farms, being as they, usually sited on remote hill tops, some heavy equipment has to be moved along roads and thoroughfares that are wholly unsuited for oversize traffic.
This was certainly the case for the Heol Y Mynach road required for the access of Mynachady Wind Farm.
There are a series of culverts that manage the flow of the various streams that run rain water off the mountain and under the road. Due to the critical nature of the route, both in terms of the project and as a road route, extra care was required when taking the large and heavy outfits carrying the masts and turbines over those culverts.
So 2 pieces of the 4m x 2m x 25 mm airside antiskid were installed and bolted to the road deck for the 8 week period whilst the loads moved along that section. Thus mitigating any chance of outsized vehicles causing any damage or collapse.
