As part of SGN’s commitment to improve its infrastructure, teams of engineers have been working right across the country in some fairly challenging environments.
One of their most important priorities is to ensure that customers never lose their gas supplies for any longer than absolutely necessary, even when extensive sections of the network need to be shut off and/or dug up.
Very often, the works will be going in the the residential streets and the running of small trenches from the street main to the individual houses/meters which they serve. The resulting in excavations on the edge of the highway, across footpaths and over or along private driveways must kept accessible wherever possible. The need to traverse the trenches both the plant required by the gas engineers, cars parked by the owners and pedestrians, plus a requirement to move them regularly means that what’s required is a tough panel, with decent anti slip properties that be moved with minimal mechanical handling. In this regard the ‘4 foot square steel Checker-plate’ is still a firm favourite.
