A Japanese injection mouldings manufacturer, specialising in products for the automotive industry invested millions of pounds in its Swansea facility. This included a huge new concrete floor slab on which some new and very heavy injection moulding machines were to be installed.
A series of unforeseen delays pushed the construction schedule back by several weeks. All the time, the new plant was steaming towards the U.K aboard ships on a separate timeline that could not be altered in any way by the construction company.
It became clear that 3 or more weeks had been lost, precious time that the new floor needed to cure off properly and therefore support the weight of the new plant being skated in on rollers without damaging the concretes all important skin.
In order to get the project back on schedule, a plan to cover 240 sq/m of runways and launch pads was drawn up. A layer of our GPRM panels were first laid out, to act as a cushion, then 30 pieces 4m x 2m x 25mm – Steel C/W SALLY were shipped express from our Sussex Depot. And installed as a super solid floor. This gave the install teams the infrastructure they needed to bring the machines into situ and therefore win back the precious lost time.
