Working with Veolia at Swan Hunter Shipyard
Sectors:
7.5m x 3m x 25mm Anti Skid – Steel C/W Bevelled Edge and SALLY
We were contacted by Veolia Environmental Services about an important project at the Swan Hunter former shipyard in Tyneside.
They are embarking on the ambitious task of a safe and sustainable decommissioning and recycling of 8 former gas platforms, at 18 stories high and weighing a massive 10,500 tonnes, coming out of service from the North Sea oil fields. A task that also brought much needed employment to the area.
Being such a large structure, cranage was required to assist with the dismantling in the large concrete yard areas surrounding the job site. The outrigger reaction loads involved meant that the concrete deck alone could not be relied upon.
Their engineering team contact our technical experts. Between us, we specified and hired to them, 6 off 7.0m X 3.0m X 25 mm thickness plates that were used over the coming months to safely distribute the loadings on the ground and thus avoiding damage to men or materials.
