Notes on security and locks and storing items in containers
When considering the merits of storing items in containers, thought should be give to the following;
- Locking and security requirements.
- The physical and aesthetic impact of the unit on site.
- The nature of the items to be stored and over what time period.

Locking and security requirements.
A primary consideration is who and how often they will need access to it.
There are 3 main types of lock available.
- In-built mortice locks with keys, similar to domestic door keys. They have benefit of being simple reliable and being within the confines of the steel structure of the door/container makes them difficult to be interfered with by hostile actors. On the downside for rental units, there is the fact that both the owner/hirer will have a key holding function, plus potentially, previous hirers may have copy keys that are difficult to account for.

- Generic padlocks. A simple but tough lock shroud and eye set up is often welded to a door set. This gives the client the opportunity to fit their own heavy duty padlock with any one of the range of keyed or combination locks available. Thus guaranteeing complete control of the access protocols. We do offer these for sale on the basis that client owns and keeps all of the keys and removes the lock at the end of the hire period.

- Hardened padlock/disc lock installations. An extremely effective security installation. The best available balance of user friendliness and super toughness. These are premium products and are available on request from www.roadplatehire.co.uk.
